The Narcissistic God? Part 1 / 5
#1: THE QUESTION
One of my fellows asked me a startling question about 3 years ago.
How is it that God isn’t somewhat narcissistic?
What do you mean?
Well God asks, really expects, everything we do to be done to His glory. It seems like God saying, “Its all about ME!”
So how would you answer this question?
This question came about as a result of me encouraging the fellow to read through the Bible and use a highlighter pen to mark all the places that referenced the glory of God. He was to note the actions that were called for or expressive of giving glory to God.
He discovered how significant this command, stated directly and simply, in I Corinthians 10:31, was in both the Hebrew Bible and the New Testament.
This command, “to do all to the glory of God” is the corollary to the command to love God with all our minds, affections(heart), and actions(strength).
So then how do we perceive this idea of God? Is God narcissistic or is something else clearly happening here that has precedent in scripture?
